The Washington, D.C. TCC Chapter held a meeting on Saturday, April 6, at J. Gilbert’s restaurant in McLean, Virginia. Member Dr. Lew Toulmin described his ongoing expedition to Ambae in Vanuatu (ex-New Hebrides), the inspiration for James Michener’s “Bali-ha’i” in South Pacific. There he is documenting World War II plane wrecks, bizarre cultural practices, and the threat from Mount Manaro, one of the ten most dangerous volcanos in the world.
