TCC Member Don Parrish Celebrates Discovery of South Pole

Don Parrish at the South Pole
Long-time TCC member Don Parrish was in the South Pole on Dec. 14, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its discovery by Norwegian explorers under the command of Roald Amundsen. Don is holding a TCC sign and, in the background, behind the Geographic South Pole sign, is the new U.S. Amundsen-Scott Base.

Parish is pictured with Norway’s Prime Minister, Jens Stoltenberg (at left), who was the main speaker. Norway’s discovery, a source of national pride, was six year’s after its independence from Sweden and 33 days before the British explorers arrived under the command of Robert Falcon Scott. The ice carving (left foreground) is of Norway’s Roald Amundsen.
